Celtic Pride !!!!

The 2016-17 Celtics season begins tomorrow!! Show your Celtic pride and wear your Celtics gear and/or green/white.  As you may know, I am a big, big Celtics fan and I'll surely be rocking (one of) my Celtics jersey tomorrow!

Rocket Day!!!!

All Things Rockets!

As part of the Grade 4 Science Motion, Forces, and Flight curriculum, students will build and launch rockets this year. Each student will receive a rocket kit, and then construct, decorate, and launch his or her rocket on Rocket Day!

Rocket Building Days

• For students in Mrs. Hevey’s and Mr. Daley’s rooms, rocket building day is Wednesday, November 2, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
• For students in Mrs. Nolte’s and Mr. Lisano’s rooms, rocket building day is Friday, November 4, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

We are recruiting parent volunteers to help with rocket building. Please send in a note with your child if you would like to help.

(Up-to-date CORIs are required to help.)

Rocket Launching Day

• Rocket Launching Day is Wednesday, November 9, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
• Families are welcome to attend this exciting afternoon of aerodynamic wonder!

Rocket Kits

• The cost for rocket kits per student is $6
• Please send in your child’s $6 (cash only, please) as soon as possible.

Pearson Math - HOMEWORK BUDDY INFORMATION

Online Practice Buddy: Homework and Practice Information

1.    Log in to your Pearson Realize account

Username: bpsLASID# (i.e.  bps12345)

Password:  burlington1

2.   Click on the orange circle that says Classes

3.   Click on Practice Buddy: Homework and Practice (it should have the day’s lesson number as well)

4.   Complete the questions.  Use a pencil and paper to solve the problems, and submit your answers.

5.   Take advantage of the helpful features if you get stuck:

•   Click on the blue tab at the top that says: Question Help

• View an Example – this feature will take you step by step through a problem
• Another Look: This is a video that will review the lesson taught in class
• Animation: This is the same video shown in class during the Visual Learning Bridge.  It will also review the concepts taught in class
• Glossary: Search for the definition of a math vocabulary word

If you cannot access the online program at home, the homework that can be torn from the student book, or a review sheet, should be done instead.

Book Wizard - Find the right level for your child

This link is a great resource for parents, students, and teachers!!! It allows you to type in the title of any book and find out what grade level or guided reading level that particuklar book is. Also,  you can search for books based on grade level.  For example, "4.5" grade level is mid fourth grade, "4.1" is beginning of fourth grade. MCBA 2016-17

Why MCBA?

After finding that many children lose interest in books after reaching the intermediate grades, Dr. Helen Constant founded the Massachusetts Children's Book Award Program in 1975. Designed for Massachusetts schoolchildren in grades 4-6, the program briefly included grades 7-9 from 1978 through 1983.

Today, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders are given a master list of book titles. After reading five of the books, students may vote for their favorite. The list is compiled from nominations of participating teachers, librarians and interested publishers. A selection committee works with the nominations and chooses 25 titles to appear on the master list.

Criteria for the master list include literary quality, genres variety, representation of diverse cultural groups, and reader appeal. Originally, only books published in the years immediately before the award were eligible. Between 1983 and 1995, however, older titles became eligible. Now, only books published within five years of the award year are eligible. Titles on the master list are all available in paperback. The author of the winning book receives a plaque to commemorate the award.
